Strengthening Public Infrastructure Safety Through Proactive Corrosion Detection

22 January 2026

In Singapore, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) is responsible for managing the country’s largest lamp pole asset base. CMT Global Technologies acknowledges and appreciates LTA’s leadership in driving critical awareness programmes across government agencies, as well as its openness in sharing more than two decades of experience in implementing a robust corrosion detection testing (CDT) regime since 2005.

The session was hosted and presented by Mr Sam Chiong Kok Hon, Chief Executive Officer of CMT Global Technologies, who engaged facilities management leaders from JTC and NParks in an important and timely discussion on corrosion risk and asset integrity.

Corrosion and pole failures are real and escalating risks in dense urban environments. The consequences of structural failure can be severe, and reliance on visible signs alone is insufficient. Proven, science based corrosion detection technologies enable proactive preventive maintenance, strengthen public safety oversight, and reduce risk in a measurable manner. This represents a fundamental duty of care and an essential element of due diligence for all facilities management practitioners.

A key message reinforced by LTA is that CDT is not a one time exercise. Corrosion is progressive and ongoing, and effective risk management requires systematic and continuous monitoring throughout the asset lifecycle.

The CMT RLS corrosion detection system is independently validated by TÜV SÜD PSB and accredited in the United Kingdom by UKAS. These certifications meet critical qualification requirements under LTA tenders and reinforce the importance of using independently certified technologies where public safety is concerned.

Preventive corrosion detection remains essential to safeguarding lives, protecting infrastructure, and maintaining public trust.
